Electors Photo Identity Card (EPIC)

A new thing for you? It is not a new thing, but a new name for an old thing. Completely known as Electors Photo Identity Card (EPIC) is just another name for your all time favorite photo and address identity – Voter ID Card i.e. these are namesakes.

EPIC or Voter ID card is issued to an Indian citizen if and only if he/she is above 18 years of age with respect to his/her right to vote. A person having this card makes him/her eligible to caste his/her vote.

How Does it Look Like?

This section is for the ones who are unaware about the look and feel of the card. It is a black and white laminated plain piece of paper holding the following details – name, address, date of birth of the card holder along with the stamped signature of issuing authority and sticker.

Who Can Get This And How To Get This Card?

Anyone who is above 18 years of age and is Indian citizen can apply for this card by filling up the Form 6 of Election Commission. Don’t forget to attach the address proof, ID proof, Date of Birth certificate(as age proof). The application mode is both online(through the website of chief electoral govt. – for respective state) and offline(filling up Form-6 in paper form to their municipal corporation area).

Problems Faced After Being Issued The Card:

The major problem being faced is that residents are unable to find their names in the voter list even if they hold the voter ID card/EPIC card which resists them from casting their votes. One reason for this problem can probably be that you have moved from the state/area where you were residing earlier and did not get a new card issued. When you move from one place to another, you have to start afresh for the EPIC card.

Therefore, just holding a card is not enough – this doesn’t ensure you that you can vote.

So, if you don’t have a valid EPIC/voter ID card, get one issued in your name, ensure your name in the electoral list and be a proud voter. You can also used to link your aadhaar card with epic card (Voter ID Card) just by following some simple and easy steps.
